Had the 911 towed this afternoon to Gilson Motorsports. They had an open spot for storage so I quickly called and took it. I pushed the car out of the garage and gave it a good wash before the tow truck arrived. I’m glad it won’t stuck here when they start the construction on my street.
We’ll hopefully have a verdict on what’s wrong with the car in a week or two and how much it’ll cost to get it fixed.

I haven’t been following this at all - symptoms?

Before(last summer), it would backfire and die, wouldn’t run for 10 minutes or even a quick spin around the block.
Now it won’t run period. It’ll crank, and the cylinders are getting fuel, but we may have an intermittent spark issue. I’m chalking it up to the CDI box or ignition coil.

Wouldn’t a bad coil be an easy fix? Why not replace the coil and replace the original Marelli distributor to the newer Bosch model?

That’s the thing though. The Distributor, cap and rotor looked pretty new. The contacts and points were clean; though I didn’t have time to check and see if it was gapped properly or simply stuck closed. The car had a tune up 4 years ago, so I assumed that those parts wouldn’t go bad so soon if at all. I tested the 944’s coil on the 911 and while it fit properly, Nothing changed. I tested the original coil for voltage which should have been 12v, and got nothing on my multimeter. I was going to check for resistance as well, but again, I had no time.
And even if we were to replace the coil, if the CDI box isn’t working, the coil wouldn’t work properly.

Looks like you already have the Bosch unit in there. In that case I guess all that is good. Hopefully it’s nothing too expensive or time consuming.

I hope so too. I just hope it isn’t something so stupid that I would have never thought of.

So it sounds like the spark plugs weren’t really the fix we thought they were. Probably good thing they were changed though.
